HowToFix is a model-access counter. You open one account, create one token, and reach every model in Model Square through a single OpenAI-compatible base URL.
Getting access to modern models is harder than using them. A working setup usually means several accounts on several providers, each with its own sign-up, its own card, its own dashboard, and its own rate limits. The models you actually want are spread across all of them, and every new project means repeating the wiring.
HowToFix was built to collapse that into one account and one base URL. The problems it is aimed at, in order of how often they come up:
| Problem | What HowToFix does instead |
|---|---|
| Many providers, many keys. A project that needs Claude, GPT and Gemini holds three keys, three SDK configurations and three billing relationships. | One token, one base URL. Switching model is a change to the model field, not to your code. |
| Payment friction. Most providers want a card and a monthly commitment before you can send a request. | Prepaid balance. You top up what you want to spend and the account draws it down per request. No card is required to hold an account, and an unused account costs nothing. |
| Opaque spending. A bill arrives at the end of the month and you cannot tell which project caused it. | Per-request usage logs and per-token limits. Every call is attributed to the token that made it, and a token can be capped or revoked on its own. |
| Locked-in clients. Tools that only speak one vendor's protocol cannot use a different model. | OpenAI-compatible, plus native Anthropic /v1/messages and Gemini routes. Existing OpenAI SDKs work by changing base_url alone. |
| No visibility into what is good. Model quality changes monthly and the marketing pages do not track it. | Usage rankings show which models people actually run, and Model Square shows the live price of each one. |
HowToFix is a gateway. It does not train models and does not resell a single provider's capacity. Requests arrive at api.howtofix.id, are metered against your balance, and are forwarded to whichever upstream serves that model. That has three consequences worth stating plainly:
howtofix.id; the API host only serves model traffic.| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| One key, many models | A single sk- token reaches every model in Model Square. 113 models are listed at the time of writing. |
| OpenAI-compatible API | /v1/chat/completions, /v1/models, embeddings, images, audio and more. Point any OpenAI SDK at the base URL and it works. |
| Native provider routes | Anthropic /v1/messages and Gemini routes are served directly, so clients written against those protocols need no translation layer. |
| Metered billing | Balance is drawn down per request. Cache reads, reasoning tokens and image output are priced separately rather than folded into one rate. |
| Per-token controls | Any token can carry its own quota, model allow-list and expiry, and can be revoked without touching the rest of the account. |
| Usage logs | Every request records the model, the tokens, the cost and the outcome, filterable by token and time. |
| Team console | One account can hold several tokens for different projects or people, each independently limited. |
| Terminal agent | The HowToFix CLI is a coding agent that authenticates against this same account. |
| Dimension | A single provider | HowToFix |

| Model switching | New SDK, new key, new config | Change the model string |
| Billing | Per provider, usually card-first | One prepaid balance |
| Spend visibility | Per provider dashboard | One log across every model |
| Per-project limits | Usually not available | A token per project, each capped |
